Collection Instructions & Tips
- Set the target number of shoes to be collected (eg, minimum target could be the number of students in your school).
- Print out our posters provided for you and advertise around the school
- Include this event notice in your newsletter with the newsletter template that we have prepared for you. Spread the news to the students' families.
- Organise the collection point in your school.
- Give a short presentation of this In Your Shoes collection program in individual classes and at school assembly.
- Get parents/students/other teachers involved to help with the collection.
- Ensure that all the collected shoes are paired up together using rubber bands or tied up with the shoe laces.
- Keep a tally of how many shoes are being donated daily/weekly. Advertise this if you like.
- When the collection has ended, please store the shoes in boxes or bags in a secure place and inform the In Your Shoes team that you are ready for the shoes to be picked up.
- Should you wish to hold an event for the final collection day or a final count of all donated shoes, please do so.
Extra Info
- Students should be made aware of why shoes are being collected, that they are being donated to Kids Off The Kerb and the difference they will make to less fortunate people by providing them with shoes and to the environment by keeping them out of landfill.
- Teachers can let students think what it would be like for them if they did not have even one pair of shoes, etc.
- Advise that all sizes and types of shoes will be accepted.
Event Ideas
- Hold a sausage sizzle on the final day of the collection period.
- Line all the shoes up around the school hall or oval and measure leangth
- Have students participate in counting the collected shoes.
- Run competitions amongst students for the person or the class that donated the most shoes.
- Invite a representative of Kids Off The Kerb to visit the school and talk about their various programs assisting disadvantaged young people through developing worthwhile initiatives focused on the environment and recycling.
- Anything else you can think of, since each individual school can create their own ideas!
